It?s expected many Brits will avoid summer holiday travel this year, instead looking to the spring according to data collected by one of the Internet’s top comparison companies: cheap.co.uk

After collecting data from various travel channels including travel insurance and airport parking customers, they revealed that more then half the travellers questioned will be looking to take advantage of the spring break and perhaps be more willing to remove their children from school then travel in the summer holiday.

A Cheap.co.uk spokesmen commented, ?With summer holiday travel costs so much higher then the off peak spring months, families can save a huge amount by travelling earlier in the year.

?Its also worth considering that this summer there is a number of sporting events taking place, including the Olympics, which are hosted here in the UK and the Euro 2012 in Poland, which will be screened on UK television channels. This may have helped sway the decisions of parents.?

With prices inflated as soon as the school summer holiday dates begin, it’s not uncommon to pay in excess of 50% more for travel in July, August and September.

A quick search online shows the vast difference. On querying a top online travel agent (Thomas Cook) for a family of four travelling to Cyprus for a week (from Stansted): the cheapest holiday can be found at 932 in April but 2109 in August. A vast difference of more than 126%, and its understandable why many parents are questioning travelling through the summer holiday period (prices were the cheapest package from both date periods and differing hotels based on the cheapest prices).

Travel companies base their prices on demand, and they understand many families need to get away during the school holiday period, especially with news that the education secretary is looking to fine those who take their children out of school for family holidays. This pushes demand up and, therefore, prices are higher.

A UK resident, parent to a six year old who regularly takes short breaks rather than a week away during the summer holiday, said, ?We takes several long weekends away, almost always staying in the UK. This way we can visit many different areas, but even we see the vast difference in prices. Over the Easter period, prices more the double at one of our favourite holiday parks (a leading and popular holiday site in the south east of England) so we tend to go away the week before or after. This not only saves us money, but the parks are also much quieter and we can enjoy the break more.?
